April 24, 2020A Regular Routine is One Key to Improving Mental Health
June 3, 2020As many of us stay home to protect our physical health, it’s important to also consider how recent changes could be impacting your mental well-being. In support of May’s Mental Health Awareness Month, Advantage Care Health Centers has a few tips to help you thrive while staying home to flatten the curve.
Follow this At-Home Mental Health Awareness Month Calendar
Every May, we as a community recognize the importance of mental health awareness. However, this year that message may be more relevant than ever. As we cope with the coronavirus pandemic in New York, many are understandably experiencing extra stress, anxiety, grief and worry right now.
Even though we all need to practice social distancing, there are still many strategies you can use to maintain mental wellness. For example, Mental Health America created a fun calendar of self-care tips to follow during Mental Health Awareness Month.
5 #ToolsToThrive to Try in May
- Go for a half hour walk. Being outside can boost energy levels, reduce depression and improve mental well-being.
- Watch a comedy show or visit a funny website. Laughter boosts the immune system and can reduce anxiety.
- Try meditation. These types of exercises help you feel good mentally and physically.
- Time with animals lowers stress hormones and boosts oxytocin, which stimulates feelings of happiness.
- Make a new healthy recipe.
Make your Mental Well-Being a Priority this May
Every May, health organizations across the country recognize Mental Health Awareness Month to shine a spotlight on this important issue. During these 31 days, everyone is urged to consider what they are doing to maintain mental wellness, especially those at risk for issues such as:
- Anxiety
- Stress
- Panic attacks
- Depression
Mental Health America’s #ToolsToThrive calendar has a list of positive activities to do with your family or on your own that will help you all lead a happier, healthier life even while staying at home.
